20 Jun 2008 - Good news!

June 20th 2008

Dear all

Good news!

Yesterday we interviewed nine teachers for the full time position in Forde class from next September, having received over 50 applications for the post!  After a long day for everyone, which involved each of the candidates teaching, an interview with the School Council and interviews in the afternoon with myself, one of our governors and three teachers, we have appointed Miss Vicky Grant to the post.  We are very pleased with the outcome of the day, and I’m sure you will be too when you have a chance to meet her.  New intake parents will get a chance to do so at the meeting on July 2nd.  Children in Forde class were also given a chance to ‘feedback’ on Miss Grant, and they were equally positive!  We were also delighted to be able to offer Miss Rebecca Hurley a one day a week contract to cover Miss Grant’s PPA time, so we get to keep her too!  I know that those of you who have met Miss Hurley will be as pleased as we are, including Forde class itself!

Well done!

Well done to Mitchell, who took part in a Year 4 Gifted and Talented Testing Day for Multi Ability Sports yesterday, representing our school!  We look forward to hearing how he got on in the next few weeks!

Arts Week

We’ve all enjoyed Arts Week once again this year, with South America as the theme.  Look out for the beautiful clay tiles soon to be displayed alongside the tiles from multicultural week (expertly finished and put up by Freya’s dad – a big thank you to him).  On Tuesday we held the South American Olympics and Football Tournament down on the field with Mr Robinson, which was a great success, particularly for Brazil team, as they won!  The children have also made dreamcatchers with Mrs P-S, produced abstract art in the style of Roberto Matta on the computer with me, painted jungle scenes with Mrs McAdams and had some Spanish teaching from Mrs Allsop – photos will be on the website soon and displays in school for you to see at Parents’ Evenings.  The winner of the Best Effort in Arts cup will be announced next week, once all votes are counted.

The big trip!

On Friday July 4th we are taking the whole school to Dawlish Warren for an educational day out!  Look out for letters with cost, permission etc nearer the time.

With best wishes
