Dear all
Just a short note to wish you all a very relaxed and happy half term holiday! It's been a very busy half term, with visits to Powderham Castle for Bradley class, Coombeshead for the Year 6 children and Miniature Pony Centre for our Year 1 children and our Year 3 and 4 children have only this week been to the cinema to see Shrek III!
We've also celebrated Harvest, and have made contributions to Breast Cancer Research thanks to our Pink Day. Our annual Healthy Schools Week was very successful, with visits from El Nashar the dentists and the Devon CAP team.
All of our children now have interactive whiteboards in their classrooms for teaching and learning, and by Christmas we should have brand new PCs in the suite and in Forde class. We will also be replacing the projector in the hall.
We have lunchtime clubs running for various classes each day, including computer club, and hope to have two after school sports clubs running next half term, as well as a High 5 netball club. All in all, as a staff we really feel that we are delivering a modern education for our children in traditional surroundings with traditional values. I hope you all agree!
All Saints Day Competition
November 1st is All Saints Day, and we will be having a special assembly that day led by the Revd. Russell Chamberlain. There is also going to be a competition - with a prize for each class! We would like the children to draw/paint or write something (a poem, factual piece etc) about our school, All Saints, and we will ask our governors to choose the best item from each class for a prize, which will be announced on All Saints Day! Please make sure the children put their full name on their entry, and their class - thank you.
Christmas boxes
A week or so ago we sent home the Operation Christmas Child leaflets so that the children can make up a box to send to needy children. Half term is a great time to do this worthwhile family activity, and we are looking forward to receiving lots of boxes after half term!
Swimming and tennis
Courtenay class will be swimming after half term, starting on the first Monday and finishing on December 10th. Please complete the attached letter if your child is in Courtenay class.
Forde class will be having professional tennis lessons once again with Russell Bond - please find attached the letter for contributions for that.
Unfortunately we do need to have these contributions or neither of these activities can take place for all our children - please help us if you can by sending in your money weekly or as a lump sum.
Sports Club
Once again may I pass on Leigh's apologies for the postponement of the after school sports club for our younger children. This will go ahead the second Monday we get back - November 5th.
Residential visit
Last year we organised a very successful residential visit to Barton Hall in Torquay. The children thoroughly enjoyed it, and indeed gained much from it. We would really like to take the Year 6 children to Barton Hall again this year- if you are a parent of a Year 6 child could you please complete the attached slip so we can have some idea of level of interest - obviously we do need as many as possible in order to make this viable. Thank you.
Britannia Building Society
The branch manager has asked me to draw your attention to the following events:
*Free prize draw into which all children opening an account during half term will be entered
*Drawing competition to design your own money box ¡V entry forms available in branch
Things to look forward to in the next half term...
All Saints Day - November 1st
Children in Need - Pound and a penny day!
Drum Crazy are coming to work with the whole school late in November, which I know from experience will be excellent!
Our children will be singing at the Victorian Evening on Wednesday 5th December, and our Christmas Fair is on Friday December 7th.
Monday December 17th is our French Christmas Day, with the now traditional French breakfast and French Christmas activities all day, including a visit from Knowles Hill.
We are taking all of the children to Exeter to see a Christmas Performance in December to celebrate this special time - watch this space for details!
Christmas Service at St Paul's on December 21st.
Details to follow...
Have a great half term holiday and see you on Monday October 29th!
With best wishes
