Dear all

Goodbye and good luck

We are very sad to let you know that we will be saying goodbye to Mrs Helen Arnold at the end of this month. Mrs Arnold is moving on to pastures new - over the hills and far away to Scotland! Mrs Arnold has probably worked with all of the children in our school at one time or another, either as a teaching assistant, or as a teacher when covering our classes for the teachers' PPA time. We will be presenting her with a gift at our Advent Service on November 30th (please note the changed date of this) so if you would like to make a contribution to this please send it to the post-box in a named envelope as usual - thank you.

Newton Abbot needs your vote!
Attached to this letter you will see a flyer about a really important opportunity for our town and its sustainable transport. The Connect 2 project needs your vote from November 26th - if it wins Newton Abbot will get new safer walking and cycling routes. So please ring, text or go online to help our town and our children's futures.

Victorian Evening
The week after next (Wednesday December 5th) sees the first of our Christmas events - the annual Newton Abbot Victorian Evening. Our children will be singing at this event, and we would like as many as possible to attend. A letter with details will be sent out next week.

Reminder - Christmas Bazaar and raffle tickets
Don't forget Friday December 7th is the Friends' Christmas Bazaar - a number of letters have gone out already regarding suggested contributions but if you haven't got around to that yet don't worry - there's still time. There's also still time to be the family that sells the most raffle tickets and wins the gift voucher!

Clive Pigg in Courtenay
Next Wednesday Courtenay class have a special visitor to help support their curriculum work - Clive Pigg the story teller is with them! I'm sure it will be an enjoyable and educational experience for them all.

Drum Crazy
We have invited Drum Crazy to spend the day with us on Thursday - they'll work with each class, culminating in a performance at the end of the day! I know this will be a brilliant day as I've worked with this company a few times before and always enjoyed it immensely.

Thank you!
Well done to everyone for last week's Children in Need 'Pound and a Penny Day' - we raised over £138, which is brilliant for a school our size and at this time of year! A big thank you to Becky Gentry from the Friends for counting the money for us! 

Climate change
As educators of the next generation we have a special responsibility to this world and how we use (and abuse) it. We need to manage our schools in ways which have a low environmental impact. With this in mind we are in the process of applying for the 'Green Flag Award' for our school, and I will be working with the new school council in January to put together an action plan. I hope that we will be awarded the bronze award very soon, based on all the wonderful recycling work that already goes on here, but if you have any expertise in this area and would like to help us, please get in touch. Our children will also be taking part in a project based around a book called 'Who will save us?' by local author Rebecca Morch. Attached to this letter is an invitation to all children and parents to a very special event on Wednesday December 19th here in Newton Abbot. This lady was a speaker at a conference I attended this week and you won't be disappointed if you go along I'm sure.

New ICT equipment!
We now have 15 of the most up to date (and environmentally friendly) computers in our ICT suite, all ready for action! We also have three new computers in Forde class, and the very latest in data projectors in the hall. Each class has an Interactive Whiteboard driven by a new computer, and all are connected to the school network and Internet. Early in the New Year I'll be inviting all parents and friends to an open evening so that everyone can have a look around at what is probably now the best equipped school in the town! We are all very proud of our village-style school in the town, delivering an education for the future with traditional values.

New - All Saints (Marsh) coats!
We have just ordered some fabulous reversible shower proof fleece jackets in our school colours which look really smart and are very practical. They will cost from £9.99 and will be available from the office if you would like one. We also have All Saints (Marsh) cagoule style coats for sale from £6.99. The shower proof fleece would be brilliant not just for coming back and fore to school, but also for after school clubs like High 5.

Have a peaceful and enjoyable weekend,
