30 Jan 2008 - End of January newsletter!

January 30th 2008

Dear all

The half term is passing very quickly as always, so a few reminders about forthcoming events!

Mothering Sunday

Mothering Sunday is very early this year (March 2nd) so the Friends’ will be running the lovely stall as in previous years on the Friday before.  With this in mind, if you have any unwanted Christmas gifts that would be suitable as Mothers’ Day gifts – please send them into school and make a space in your house!

 Book Fair

Our book fair will be arriving in school on February 6th (Wednesday) and will be open after school that day and every day up to and including Tuesday February 12th.  Although World Book Day is not until March 6th, we already have the tokens for the children, and they are able to use them early at our book fair!  As last year, we will be operating a ‘lucky book token’ competition – if you use your token to buy a book at the fair, it will be in with a chance of being selected as the ‘lucky book token’ which wins a prize on the last day!  I’m sure you will join me in a big ‘thank you’ to Mrs Facey for organising our book fair each year!

 Multicultural Week

The week before half term is our ‘Multicultural Week’ and we have two visitors to work with the children booked.  Clive Pig will be in on the Thursday for story telling, and Chartwell Dutiro will be joining us on the Tuesday for learning about music and stories from Africa .  If you have any special skill that you would like to share with the children during this week, please let us know.

School Council

The children are currently learning about how a school council operates, and what the role of school council representative involves.  This means we should be able to hold our elections the week after half term, and once elected the representatives (from each year group) will then be trained in readiness for the first meeting!  Good luck to all our prospective councillors!

Congratulations

Congratulations are due to one of our pupils in Templar class, Bethany Smith, who was selected to attend a Gifted and Talented residential for Art and Design this month!  Very few places are available and the standard is very high – so well done Beth!

Easter

The Rainbow House Theatre Company will be joining us on Friday March 14th for a presentation of the Easter story, including volunteers from the pupils!  The company have visited us before, and are highly recommended for dealing with a sometimes difficult area for children to understand, so we look forward to welcoming them back.  As Easter is so early this year we will not be having a service at the end of term.  Instead, the Revd Russell Chamberlain will be leading a service here in Holy Week, and there will be another service the following week celebrating the resurrection, led by our curate, Graham.

Disability Equality Scheme

As a staff we are currently reviewing this policy and would welcome any feedback from parents and carers on this issue.

Absence from school

If your child is going to be absent from school because they are ill, please let us know as soon as possible on the first day of absence.  This can be done in person, by telephone and also now by e-mail to admin@allsaints-marsh.devon.sch.uk.  Please put ‘absence’ in the subject field.  Without this information the absence will be recorded as unauthorised – thank you for your help with this.

For your convenience all newsletters and dates are also available on the school website, at www.allsaints-marsh.ik.org.

With best wishes
